Awards 2015: Checkout the full list of 2015 Awards and Recognitions—who won big!

Imagine a life of hard work without any recognition. To break this monotony, awards are necessary which play an important role in giving recognition and appreciating one's work. Let's take a look at who were honoured in 2015.

 

Masaan

Neeraj Ghaywan's debut directorial film 'Masaan' is one such film that highlights the stereotypes existing in contemporary India. The film was shot in the backdrop of river ganges in the Shivnagri 'Varanasi'. The film was screened at the 2015 'Cannes Film Festival' winning two awards. The film went on create waves at the international film festival, where the audience gave 'Masaan' a thundering applause and a standing ovation.

Manjhi- The Mountain Man

Ketan Mehta's directorial 'Manjhi- The Mountain Man' was based on the life of Dashrath Manjhi, a poor labourer from Gehlaur village in Bihar. He spent 22 years toiling in carving a road through a treacherous mountain by using only a hammer and a chisel. The movie was jointly produced by Viacom 18 motion pictures and NDFC India. Nawazuddin Siddiqui impressed one and all with his power-packed performance.

Cannes Film Festival

The 68th annual Cannes Film Festival was held from May 13th to 24th, 2015. Joel and Ethan Coen were the Presidents of the Jury for the main competition It was the first time that two people chaired the jury. French film 'Dheepan' directed by Jacques Audiard, was awarded the 'Palme d'Or'.

Grammy

The 57th Annual Grammy Awards were held on February 8, 2015, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. 'Sam Smith' won four awards, including Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Song of the Year for "Stay with Me" and Best Pop Vocal Album for In the Lonely Hour.

Oscar

The 87th Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), honored the best films of 2014 and took place on February 22, 2015, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California. Actor 'Neil Patrick Harris' hosted the ceremony.

'Eddie Redmayne' from the movie 'The Theory of Everything' won the title of Best actor.

'Julianne Moore' from the movie 'Still Alice' won the title of Best actress 'Birdman' or 'The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance' won the title of Best Picture and Best directing.

BAFTA

The 68th 'British Academy Film Awards' were held on 8 February 2015 at the Royal Opera House in London. The American film 'Boyhood' won three nominations, including Best Film and Best Director. 'The Theory of Everything' was named Outstanding British Film.

Filmfare Awards

The 60th Filmfare Awards were held at the Yash Raj Studio in Mumbai on 31st January, to honour the best films of 2014. The grand ceremony was hosted by fimmaker Karan Johar, Alia Bhatt and Kapil Sharma.

'Queen' produced by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane, won the title of Best Film

Vikas Bahl directorial 'Queen' won the title of Best director. Shahid Kapoor from the movie 'Haider' won the title of Best Actor Kangana Ranaut from the movie 'Queen' won the title of Best Actress.

National Film Awards

These are one of the most prestigious awards in the country. It is administered by the Indian government's Directorate of Film Festivals since 1973. The award ceremony was held in New Delhi, where the President of India presents the awards.

'Sanchari Vijay' won the title of Best Actor for the kannada language film 'Naanu Avanalla...Avalu' in which he played the role of a transgender. 'Kangana Ranaut' won the title of Best actress for the movie 'Queen'. 'Court', a 2014 Indian courtroom drama film by Chaitanya Tamhane, won the title of Best Feature Film.

Man Booker Prize

It is a literary prize awarded each year for the best original novel, written in the English language, and published in the UK. The 2015 Booker Prize for Fiction was awarded at a ceremony on 13 October 2015.

The judge Michael Wood announced that Jamaican author Marlon James had won the 2015 Man Booker Prize for his novel 'A Brief History of Seven Killings'.

Pulitzer Prize

The Pulitzer Prize is an award for performance in newspaper and online journalism, literature, and musical composition in the United States. The 2015 Pulitzer Prizes were awarded by the Pulitzer Prize Board for work during the 2014 calendar year.

Robert Frost, won the title for his Poetry, Eugene O'Neill won the title for his Drama

 

Sahitya Akademi

The Sahitya Akademi Award is a literary honour in India, where the Sahitya Akademi, India's National Academy of Letters, annually confers on writers of the most outstanding books of literary merit published in any of the major Indian languages.

In 2014, Ramesh Chandra Shah for the novel 'Vinayak' won the title. However, in 2015 the writers staged protest against the murder of M. M. Kalburgi, a Kannada Sahitya Akademi award winner.
