Scientology `being investigated for human trafficking` by FBI
Washington: Tom Cruise`s controversial religion Scientology is being investigated by the FBI for its alleged involvement in human trafficking, according to reports.
Court documents have revealed new details about the FBI probe, and how Cruise`s best friend, church leader David Miscavige, was also involved in it.
The shocking claims about the investigation were brought to light as part of Monique Rathbun`s ongoing harassment suit against Miscavige and the church of Scientology.
On January 1, former church member Mike Rinder had filed a declaration about communications that once had with Miscavige, and how those text messages had made their way into the FBI`s hands.
Rinder wrote in the court document which were obtained by Radar Online, that in 2010, FBI contacted him concerning a probe they were conducting into Miscavige and the church centered on human trafficking; he asserted that at their request, he turned over everything that he had concerning his communications with Miscavige.
Rinder`s comment offered new glimpses into the top-secret probe, which journalist Lawrence Wright first uncovered in a 2011 article for the New Yorker.
According to Wright, FBI agents had been actively contacting former members regarding "human trafficking" in the church since at least December 2009.
