New York: The revival of the musical `Evita`, which brought pop superstar Ricky Martin back to the Broadway stage, will ring down the curtain for the last time next Saturday.
The play, which debuted at the Marquis Theater in March 2012 and had its official premiere April 5, brought theater-goers from far and wide to see the singer in the role of `Che`, the voice of the people, and the story of a woman who 70 years after her death continues to spark passion and controversy.
This Saturday Martin, Elena Rogers and Michael Cerveris will wrap up their appearances as Che, Eva Peron and Juan Domingo Peron.
Following an "extensive search" that found no substitutes for the departing cast, the producers decided to ring down the curtain for good.
Martin`s acting in the revival of `Evita` won positive comments from critics and the singer has said he hopes this was just the beginning of a long career on the boards.
After playing Che for the last time, the charismatic artist will travel to Australia to be on the jury for the second season of `The Voice`, together with Seal, Joel Madden and Delta Goodrem.
He also has a project in the works for a television series with the NBC/Universal network and is writing his second book, which this time is for children and should be released halfway through the year.
