1993 Mumbai blasts: Supreme Court dismisses Sanjay Dutt`s curative petition

Zee Media Bureau New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed the curative petition filed by actor Sanjay Dutt in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case. Dutt had filed the petition pleading reconsideration of the apex court`s earlier decision, which had upheld his conviction in the case. A four-judge bench headed by Chief Justice P Sathasivam did not find merit in the curative petition filed by the 53-year-old Bollywood actor. The curative petition, which was filed by the actor, was his last legal option, after the apex court had dismissed his review petition on May 10. This kind of petition is decided generally in judges' chamber, by two or three three senior-most judges and the judges who delivered the impugned judgement. In March this year, the Supreme Court had upheld Dutt’s conviction in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case for illegal possession of weapons but reduced his sentence to five years in jail. Dutt had already served a part of that sentence before his review petition was rejected. The actor is currently lodged in Pune`s Yerawada Jail. (With inputs from PTI)
