London: The remaining members of Boyzone drank and sang songs after the funeral of bandmate Stephen Gately, sources say.The group’s manager Louis Walsh, Elton John’s partner David Furnish, Westlife and Shayne Ward joined the group in the emotional late-night meal.
They reportedly ordered vintage champagne and raised a toast in memory of their late friend at the plush Four Seasons in Dublin.
“Ronan, Keith, Shane and Mikey arrived together after the funeral and looked down-hearted. The strain of the day had taken its toll,” a news daily quoted an onlooker as saying.
The source added, “But they decided Stephen deserved a good send-off so they picked themselves up and celebrated his life with some of his closest pals.
“It was like a who’s who of the Irish pop world with the Westlife lads and Louis Walsh at the head of the table. Louis later put a card behind the bar and told everyone to drink whatever they wanted because it was on him.
“It was great to see everyone with a smile on their face at the end of the night. They obviously got a lot of strength from being together.
“At one point some of the lads were sitting in the corner of the room and they started singing ballads and then swapping funny stories about Stephen.
“They have been through so much in the past week it was just great to see they found something to smile about.”
The gang reportedly left the place at around 2 am late night.
Gately died on October 10 in Majorca, Spain after suffering a build-up of fluid on the lungs.
