New Delhi: Aditya Pancholi’s son Sooraj Pancholi, who has been remanded in judicial custody till June 27 by the Andheri metropolitan magistrate’s court, has moved for bail in the Sessions Court claiming the police is framing him in the case.
According to DNA, Sooraj was sent to judicial custody as the court maintained that the prosecution could not produce any additional proof apart from those cited while seeking his police custody on June 11.
“There were a few vital grounds on which we sought an extension of police custody. The police wanted to interrogate Suraj in connection with the letter which allegedly stated that Jiah Khan was raped and tortured by him. Also, there were a number of messages which were exchanged between Jiah and Suraj on WhatsApp as well as Facebook, which Suraj allegedly has deleted. Hence, the police wanted to unearth those messages,” public prosecutor AK Pacharne said.
The defence counsel Jameer Khan opposed the prosecution’s appeal on the basis that the police had failed to get any new reasons to seek the custody of Sooraj.
Advocate Khan also asserted that the proof on which the police is depending is not even controversial.
“The letters which the police claim to have recovered from Jiah’s residence are normal letters and have nothing suspicious. Also, my client has cooperated with the police and handed over his mobile phone for the purpose of investigation,” Khan said.
Magistrate SC Jadhav remanded Sooraj in judicial custody, after hearing the arguments.
Sooraj Pancholi, arrested for abetting actor Jiah Khan`s suicide after Jiah’s mother handed a six-page letter, allegedly written by Jiah, in which she blames her boyfriend for abuse.
