Mumbai: Karan Johar seems to have decided to use his Twitter handle to announce his latest projects. He initiated the practice with ‘Shuddhi’, starring Salman Khan, and then went on to announce a film featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles. And now, he has confirmed his first project with Akshay Kumar. KJo took to Twitter and wrote: “Dharma Productions, Lionsgate, Endemol India present ‘BROTHERS’ directed by Karan Malhotra & starring Akshay Kumar, Sidharth Malhotra, Jacqueline Fernandez & Jackie Shroff. Releasing Oct 2nd, 2015 (sic).” The project, interestingly comes after Akshay Kumar took a dig at Karan Johar while the former questioned about his struggle days in the industry on the latest edition of chat show ‘Koffee with Karan’. Akki was quick enough to respond. He said that he was never offered films by big and reputed banners and hence he had to depend on less popular banners to create a niche for himself. Of late, Karan has been keen on experimenting with actors whom he has hardly worked with before. For instance, ‘Shhuddhi’ with Salman comes after a long gap, since the two last worked together in ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ in 1998. And with ‘Brothers’ featuring Akki in the lead, KJo has certainly moved out of his comfort zone.
