Los Angeles: Hollywood actor Randy Quaid and his wife Evi were jailed here for three hours after failing to appear in multiple hearings of a Santa Barbara court.
The eccentric couple, wanted as fugitives, were sent to jail yesterday by Superior Court Judge Frank Ochoa for missing multiple hearings in their felony case, People reported online.
"They came to court this morning hoping that Judge Ochoa would forgive them for not showing up a couple weeks ago, but the judge said they showed disrespect by prior failures to appear and by flashing Randy`s Golden Globe award in court the last time around," Santa Barbara District Attorney Arnie Tolks said.
The couple brought to the hearing Quaid`s best-actor trophy which he had won for 1988 miniseries `LBJ: The Early Years`.
"They both apologized to the court, but the judge obviously didn`t take it lightly," he added.
The Quaids posted a bail of USD 100,000 each and left the jail facility in the afternoon after three hours in custody.
They were originally arrested in Texas, in September last year after they skipped paying a 10,000 bill at a ranch. Although they paid their outstanding bill later, prosecutors say a crime was still committed.
