London: British singer Robbie Williams is asking fellow Britishers to take part in a football charity event for Haiti, after a recent trip to the quake devastated country left him feeling humbled. The `Angels` hitmaker had teamed up with UNICEF for the visit, where he met youngsters left homeless by January`s earthquake, Contactmusic reported.
"I met children who were injured, who had been separated from their parents and were living in temporary shelters, or on the streets in Haiti. This earthquake hit children the hardest. The children there are so vulnerable, they`re living day to day without the basic things they need and are at risk of violence and abuse. I don`t know about you, but I think this is wrong and we need to put it right for those children," Williams said. The 36-year old singer is using his bi-annual charity football tournament, `Soccer Aid`, in June to raise funds for the charity and wants his countrymen to help him in the initiative. "Everyone knows I`m a massive football fan, and now I`m asking everyone to join me and `Keep it Up for Soccer Aid`. It`s really simple: do as many sponsored `keepy uppys` (soccer move) as you can and raise bucket loads of money to help make a real difference to the lives of kids all over the world, including the fantastic young people that I met in Haiti," Williams said. "Much more needs to be done in Haiti and in many other countries of the world where children need our help. That`s why this year`s Soccer Aid is more important than ever," he added. PTI
