Salman Khan hit-and-run: Plea in Bombay HC to look into witness death

New Delhi: Bombay High Court has received a plea from a Pune based activist Hemant Patil seeking to analyse the death of constable Ravindra Patil.

Patil was a witness in the case and died in a municipal hospital in 2007. According to a report in Times of India, the petition claims that Patil's testament against Salman in the court led to his death from tuberculosis.

A new petition filed before the Bombay High Court on Thursday has sought an investigation into the death of constable Ravindra Patil, the prime witness in the Salman Khan hit-and-run case. Patil, who was the one to lodge the complaint after the mishap, had also said that the actor was under the influence of alcohol then. During the trial however Patil mysteriously dissappeared and later the court issued a warrant against Patil,

After his death Sessions judge DW Deshpande had upheld his statement and went by his account when he said that actor Salman Khan was driving after drinking, despite Ravindra Patil telling him not to be reckless.

On September 28, 2002, Khan's car had rammed into a bakery in suburban Bandra, killing one person and injuring four others who were sleeping on the pavement.

D.W. Deshpande - held Salman Khan guilty in the 2002 hit-and-run case and sentenced him to 5 years in jail. The Bombay High Court suspended the actor's five-year prison sentence later that week.
