Mumbai: Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt`s third parole ends on Friday. Dutt has been out on parole since December 21, 2013. He was due to return to Pune`s Yerawada Central Jail on January 21, but he sought and was given extension of another month (till February 21) in his parole. The Bollywood actor then sought further one-month extension of his parole to nurse his wife Maanyata, who was recovering after surgery.
Dutt will now have to return to the Yerwada Jail, where he is serving his 42-month jail term. In an embarrassment for the Maharashtra government, the Bombay High Court had on February 25 pulled it up for showing "extra diligence" to Dutt in the matter of granting him repeated paroles. Dutt had applied for the first parole as he had to get his knee treated. On the second occasion, he applied on the pretext of looking after his twin children in the absence of his wife (Maanyata), who was undergoing treatment in a city hospital. And on the third occasion, he wanted to be by his ailing wife who was yet to recover from her illness and had to undergo further treatment. The actor surrendered himself before the TADA court on May 16, 2013 and has been serving his remaining 42-month jail term after being convicted by the Supreme Court for illegal possession of arms in relation to the 1993 Mumbai blasts case.
