Mumbai: Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta has come out in support of his colleagues Sajid Khan and Ajay Devgn, whose latest, ‘Himmatwala’ has been subjected to severe criticism at the hands of the critics.
The film that released this Friday opened amidst much hype. But the Ajay Devgn starrer failed to impress the critics. Gupta, who is currently busy with his next, ‘Shootout at Wadala’, took to Twitter to extend support to Khan and Devgn. He tweeted, “Guys stop lynching Sajid Khan. Each to his own cinema. But why react so strongly to the content of Himmatwala? Isn`t it what was promised in the trailer? Why expect it to be Munna Bhai / 3 Idiots? (sic).” When twitter users reacted to his tweets, he went on to add, “Why feel betrayed by Himmatwala? It is what it was meant to be... And has had a historic first day for Ajay Devgan. Sajid Khan public ke liye film banaata hai, Oscar ke liye nahin... And that is what he says... So why expect your so called great cinema? Why do you think we film makers make trailers? Its for you to gauge and judge the content of our film and decide whether you want to see it (sic).” Point noted Mr Gupta.
