Shammi Kapoor is immortal: Amar Singh

Mumbai: Expelled Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh, who flew down from Delhi to have a last glimpse of Bollywood star Shammi Kapoor, said that the actor is immortal and will live in everyone`s memories forever.

"I saw the news of Shammiji`s demise on TV channels and I flew down from Delhi to see him for the last time. I won`t be here for the cremation tomorrow (Monday) because I have to go back to Delhi," Singh told reporters at the 79-year-old actor`s residence here. "I remember when I had become friends with Amitabh Bachchan almost 20 years ago, I had told him about my wish to meet Shammi-ji and it was in this very house that he had got me to meet him. He (Shammi) was such a great person. He is immortal and his memories will live on forever," he added. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Chhagan Bhujbal too came to pay his tributes to the actor, who died of kidney failure Sunday morning. "He was a great star and a great person. He was a very good friend of mine. He was internet savvy and taught me many things. It is a big loss for us," he said. Union Heavy Industries Minister and NCP leader Praful Patel, accompanied by his wife, also visited Shammi Kapoor`s house to pay his tributes. IANS
