Sooraj fell in love with a girl who was mentally disturbed: Zarina Wahab

New Delhi: While the Mumbai police continue to forage for clues in actress Jiah Khan’s suicide case, allegations and counter-allegations have been piling up one after the other. While Jiah’s mother Rabbiya Khan has time and again spoken of how Sooraj Pancholi, Jiah’s boyfriend, ‘hit and abused’ her, Sooraj’s mother Zarina Wahab maintains that her son is innocent. Speaking to a news channel, Wahab said, “My son is innocent and I’m proud of him. He fell in love with a girl who was mentally disturbed. He was in no position to support her. He definitely fell in love with the wrong girl. But if he is guilty, he will be punished.” Wahab further added regarding Sooraj and Jiah being in a ‘live-in relationship’, “Our houses were close by. She used to drop by sometimes. So where’s the question of being in a live-in relationship here?” “I’m proud of my son and even now I believe that my son is innocent – because I have brought him up,” added Zarina. Aditya Pancholi’s wife, Zarina also added that Jiah should have chosen a more mature man instead of a young guy. The ‘Nishabd’ actress was found hanging in her Juhu apartment at 11.30 pm on the night of June 3, 2013. Meanwhile, Sooraj Pancholi is to remain in judicial custody till June 27, the police have said.
