Vidya cannot match up to Silk Smitha

Mumbai: When it comes to making a biopic, one has to take care of the minutest details. While in Hollywood, actors like Jamie Foxx and Leonardo Di Caprio have won accolades for portraying real life characters to the tee, while in India, filmmakers have often taken cinematic liberties.
Vidya Balan’s latest film, ‘The Dirty Picture’ is based on southern actress Silk Smitha’s life. While the film fraternity is going gaga about Vidya’s bold avatar, many feel that the actress does not resemble the sultry siren of the 80s. Speaking to a daily, an actor who acted with Silk in a couple of projects and who knew her up close, said, "Vidya looks sexy in the poster of ‘The Dirty Picture’. But she is nothing like Silk. Her physical attributes don`t add up. Silk was dusky, she was slightly over 5 feet 7 inches tall; her eyes were big and when she did those sexy movements of licking her thick luscious lips and rolling her eyes up in a dreamy way, she gave men something to think about. In Vidya`s case, she appears to be 5 feet 2 inches tall; she has small eyes, she is petite and has a wheatish complexion. Silk managed to fill the screen with her broad shoulders and long legs. Vidya is tiny and her torso doesn`t quite add up.``The first look of the film has already received a good response and sources state that the film is being reportedly sold for 18-19 crores overseas. However, the price offered for the Tamil Nadu territory of this movie is just restricted to lakhs. “Vidya is a fine actor. She may make up for the lack of physical attributes with her acting skills. But she`s going to have to work hard to bring the sizzle and sensation that Silk brought to the screen,`` the actor added. Looks like Vidya might get a thumbs down from her home turf.
