Mumbai: For actress Vidya Balan, the word ‘impossible’ seems to be impossibility. From the coy, shy damsel in ‘Parineeta’ to the bold, ‘dirty’ Silk, Vidya’s trajectory has seen several crests and many more troughs. Every film that the actress has been seen in, however, been a witness to her extreme dedication and unending quest for perfection. With ‘Kahaani’, Balan has only taken her image a notch further.
‘Kahaani’, the story of a woman – six months pregnant, and in search of her husband – sees a facet of Vidya that has hitherto not been unveiled in front of her viewers. The film has acted spectator to Vidya’s incessant hard work, at times even by putting her life on stake (the incident that took place at one of the metro stations in Kolkata whereby Vidya almost fell off the platform and on the tracks), and her ‘baby’ sees the light of the world tomorrow.
Vidya has always had a penchant for acting in, and is known for her women-centric movies. From the single mother who fights against the world in ‘Paa’ to the sly rustic seductress in ‘Ishqiya’, the actress has shown many of her manifestations in the past. With ‘Kahaani’, her repertory of strong roles is bound to grow richer. The movie releases Friday, and that people are waiting with bated breaths to watch Vidya Bagchi – goes without saying.
‘Kahaani’ being slated for release just a day after the International Women’s Day couldn’t have delivered a more powerful message. That the movie is centred on a woman was always known, and now Vidya’s celebration of womanhood is what is being waited for. Also, now after a National Award, the actress sure is geared up for more such performances!
