Waited for four years to make debut in Bollywood: Ayushman

New Delhi: TV presenter Ayushman Khurana, who plays the role of a sperm donor in his debut Bollywood film ‘Vicky Donor’, is happy to begin his career with an unconventional project.

Khurana, 27, acted in theatres for five years and says he was waiting for the right opportunity for the past four years. "I always wanted to be an actor. After I won `Roadies`, I got many offers of second lead or lead in many films. But those scripts didn`t excite me. I waited for four years. Then Shoojit Sircar approached me and I thought this is the one which I was waiting for," Khurana told reporters. After winning `Roadies`, he shifted to radio and video jockying and thereafter he took off as a commercial television anchor with multiple-talent based reality shows like `India`s Got Talent`, `Music Ka Maha Muqqabla`, and ` Just Dance`. Ayushman says his focus right now is to concentrate on his acting and select films which are performance-oriented. "I have entered in a very safe zone by starting my career with such a strong film. I am not a star kid and don`t have a godfather in the industry. The film which I should be doing should be unconventional. Since, subject in the film is the king, it will support me to evolve as an actor," he said. ‘Vicky Donor’, which will hit screens on April 10, is a comic take on the serios issue of sperm donation and infertility. "It`s a youth based film and our target audience are youth. So, it was necessary for us to spread the message in a quirky way and at the same time maintain its essence. It`s similar to street plays. We have only tried to enlighten people about this issue," Ayushman Said. Actor John Abraham, who is also making his debut as a producer with the film, was always present on the sets and guided him in his best possible way. "John is not only a good actor but a good human being too. He treated me as his younger brother. He guided me in all my shots. He always used to make me understand the concept behind each shots. He used to make us comfortable on sets ," Ayushman says. He will be seen sharing the screen space with new actress Yami Gautam, who made her debut on Television with 'Chand Ke Paar Chalo'. "I feel Yami is a better actor than me. She did television and she knows the various intricacies of shooting in front of the camera. I don't understand much about it. I feel I need to brush up my body language and skills to have a better future in the industry." Ayushman, who is in talks with Sircar for his next untitled project, says he is not in the rat race to grab any film offers that comes on his way. "As I waited for four years for "Vicky Donor". I will do very selective film. VJs don't have a small shelf life, so, I am not apprehensive if I don't get any other films." PTI
