London: Australian singer Kylie Minogue may appear fit as a fiddle but the star opted for an extreme water diet to knock out few pounds ahead of a whirlwind promotional trip to the US.
The drastic diet required the 42-year-old to drink nothing but water flavoured with freshly squeezed lemon or lime and one small low-calorie meal a day, a news daily reported.
According to a source close the petite star says that Minogue says that the extreme diet enabled the singer to drop a dress size for her high-profile appearances on US television.
"She wasn`t overweight," the source said, adding that Minogue takes the drastic measures "whenever she`s due to give a high-profile performance or has a photo shoot."
"When she wants a treat she freezes the citrus water into ice cubes so it feels like she`s eating a healthy ice lolly," the source told a magazine.
Minogue wore an assortment of tiny dresses for her US trip, including a midriff-baring Julian MacDonald number. And while the singer may feeling the pressure to look amazing for her US tour next year, the low-calorie diet is hardly providing her with nutrients needed for her grueling schedule.
After appearing on `Dancing with the Stars` and the `Tonight Show` with Jay Leno, Minogue flew directly to Paris where she and Taio Cruz debuted their new single Higher at the Bercy Starfloor music festival.
Her tiring schedule will also see her performing on the `X Factor` this weekend in front of sister Dannii and the rest of the judges.
