Gujarat: Miffed over ticket distribution, ex-MP Kanji Bhai Patel quits BJP along with son

Ahmedabad: In a jolt to the BJP, one of its former lawmakers Kanji Bhai Patel on Tuesday quit the party along with his son.

According to ANI, Patel, the former BJP Member of Parliament, was upset with the party's ticket distribution.

He was seeking a BJP ticket for his son Sunil Patel and when his request was not accommodated, he decided to quit his party along with his son.

Kanji Bhai's son Sunil will now contest as an Independent candidate from Gandevi in Gujarat.

Though there is no official word from BJP on Kanji Bhai Patel's move, the insiders see this as a big jolt to the party just ahead of the crucial assembly elections in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's state.

The BJP today released its fourth list of candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in the state. The list contains the name of Peeyush Desai, who has been given to contest polls from Navsari seat. The party had earlier on Monday released the names of 28 candidates for the elections.

The assembly elections in Gujarat will be held in two phases – December 9 and 14 – and the votes will be counted on December 18.
