Honeypreet Insan's police remand extended by three days till Oct 13

Chandigarh: Honeypreet Insan, the adopted daughter of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, was remanded in police custody for three days by a Panchkula court on Tuesday.

Honeypreet, whose real name is Priyanka Taneja, was arrested by the Haryana Police on October 3 in connection with the deadly violence that had claimed 35 lives.

Police sought a nine-day remand of Honeypreet but the court after hearing arguments sent her to three days in police custody.

Earlier, on October 4, the court had sent Honeypreet to six days in police custody. 

Police sought Honeypreet's remand on the ground that they wanted to take her to other states like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh.

Honeypreet, in her mid-30s, has been the closest aide of Ram Rahim for nearly a decade.

Ram Rahim has been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of over Rs 30 lakh. His conviction led to violence in Panchkula and Sirsa in Haryana, leaving 38 people dead and another 264 injured. Isolated incidents of violence were also reported from Delhi and several places in Punjab.
