New Delhi: Doctors at a city hospital in Coimbatore performed robotic whipples surgery on 14-year-old girl.

Hospital Chairman and Chief Surgeon Dr C Palanivelu told reporters here today that the girl was referred to the hospital after being evaluated outside, with pancreatic tumour called solid pseudo papillary tumor of pancreas, which is common in young women in their early 20's.

The surgery took nearly five hours, he said

Dr Palanivellu said enteral feeding was started on the second post operative day and the girl was discharged on the fifth day, with no scars on her body.

With very quick post-operative recovery, she is on normal diet and records proved that this was the youngest patient in the world to undergo this major procedure by robotic approach, Palanivelu said.

The video of the procedure would be shown at two major international conferences in Taiwan and China in June and July respectively, he added.
