Red Bull boss slams F1 over `tyre management` rules

London: Red Bull boss Dietrich Mateschitz has criticised the current format of Formula One, saying that it is being ruined by the current rules of tyre management.

Even though Red Bull has won two of the first four Grands Prix in 2013, Mateschitz appears unhappy with the changes in the Pirelli tyres, saying that F1 is no longer a thoroughbred racing competition. Although Pirelli has made tweaks to their hard compound for the next round in Spain, some tyres have lasted only seven laps and the racing has become more about strategy rather than speed. Stating that F1 has stopped becoming `classic racing`, Mateschitz said that the winner of the race is the driver with the optimum tyre management rather than the fastest driver in the fastest car. According to Mateschitz, even Red Bull had to scale down their car, because the tyres were not lasting, adding that they would need 10 to 15 pit stops if they had raced as fast as they could. Sebastian Vettel leads the drivers’ championship by 10 points and Red Bull head the driver`s championship after four of 19 rounds. ANI
