Olympian Sequeira recuperating from burn injuries

Former 1500m national record holder Eddie Sequeira, who participated in the 5000m in the 1972 Summer Olympic Games in Munich, is recuperating in a city hospital after sustaining burn injuries.

Mumbai: Former 1500m national record holder Eddie Sequeira, who participated in the 5000m in the 1972 Summer Olympic Games in Munich, is recuperating in a city hospital after sustaining burn injuries in Goa a few days ago.“Sequeira had gone to Goa with a friend and following gas leakage where he was staying both of them suffered burn injuries. Eddie has been shifted to Mumbai’s Bhatia Hospital. He told me he’s suffered severe burn injuries to his leg,” former national sprint champion and current national selection panel member Adille Sumariwalla said on Tuesday.Sequeira, who created his metric mile national mark of 3:43.7 - incidentally also the then Asian record - in the 1966 Kingston Commonwealth Games, which stood in the books for 35 years till Bahadur Prasad broke it -- had celebrated his 68th birthday 10 days ago.
The former TISCO employee was the king of middle distance running and held sway over the 800 and 1500m races for a decade from 1963 to 1973. PTI
