Mumbai, Aug 19: Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan
and leading heroines Aishwarya Rai and Kajol were presented
Rajiv Gandhi awards at a function here.
The awards, instituted five years ago by Mumbai Pradesh
Youth Congress (MPYC), are given every year to personalities
for their excellent contribution in various fields like media,
entertainment, industry, science and sports.
Other awardees included Adi Godrej, Tarun Tejpal, Dilip
Prabhavalkar, Ekta Kapoor, K Malleshwari, Piyush Pandey,
Manish Malhotra and 16-year-old Udaipur-based Shaleen
Harlalka, who has developed a technique to detect land mines.
At the instance of the demanding crowd, Shahrukh rendered
dialogues from his latest blockbuster ‘Devdas’.
The awards were distributed jointly by Maharashtra Chief
Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, AICC general secretary Ambika
Soni and MPYC chief Charan Singh Sapra.
Earlier, desperate to get a glimpse of Bollywood stars at
the awards distribution ceremony, enthusiastic congress
activists broke glass panes at the Shanmukhanand hall.
