2 terrorists killed in Shopian encounter, operation underway

SRINAGAR:  Two terrorists were killed during an encounter with the security forces on Tuesday morning in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir. One soldier sustained minor injuries.

A third terrorist, present in the residential house where the encounter took place, also started firing at security forces.

"Bodies of two terrorists have recovered but third one is still alive and is present in a house, he started firing again a few minutes back," says Inspector general of police (Kashmir) Muneer Khan.

A search operation is currently underway. 

The gunfight had started in Batmuran village of Shopian district on Monday evening when the troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of state police surrounded a house on a tip-off.

The intelligence reports said that about two to three militants were hiding in that house, police said.

In December 11,  terrorists opened fire on a cash van, leading to the death of two guards. The attack took place in Kralchak area of the Shopian district.
