Mumbai: In a Christmas gift to Mumbaikars, the country's first AC suburban train had commenced its services on December 25, 2017.

The train, operated by the Western Railway (WR), began its journey at 10.32 am from Borivili station to Churchgate in South Mumbai on the Christmas day.

And on Wednesday, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted a post asking people 'take a virtual tour' of the train.

He wrote, "What makes India's first air-conditioned local train, cooler? From state-of-the-art technology to passenger comfort - 'just chill' is winning hearts of Mumbaikars."

In an earlier post he had written, "India's first air conditioned Mumbai local - It is not just a selfie, but the mirror of an aspirational and positive India, cherishing the fruits of growth and development."

The 12-car AC local has automatic doors, vestibules and other features of a modern transit system.

The WR will run a total of six daily services between Borivali and Churchgate. The train will stop at Andheri, Dadar, Bandra, and Mumbai Central.

On January 1, 2018, six more services will be introduced and the route will be extended to Virar.
