Mumbai: The financial capital has experienced a second massive downpour in this season over Tuesday and Wednesday.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) data of September 19, Mumbai recorded nearly 304 mm of rainfall over a period of 24 hours, while the average rainfall set for the month was 312mm.

"The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC) has said that owing to climate change we'll keep seeing such heavy rain over short intervals," Prof Kapil Gupta tolf The Times of India.

The western suburbs like Andheri, Borivli, Dahisa and Dindoshi are among the most affected areas.

Beside low-lying areas of Khar and Kalina, parts of western suburbs like Dahisar, Marol and Bandra also reported water-logging.

As many as 35,000 BMC staffers were deployed on the streets to handle the situation.
