Scheme to control stray dogs menace in Haryana

Chandigarh: With the incidents of canines attacking people increasing in the state, the Haryana government has approved the proposal to frame a comprehensive scheme to control the population of stray dogs and the spread of deadly diseases like rabies.

Under the scheme, Society for Stray Canine Birth Control would be constituted to strengthen the sterilisation and anti-rabies immunisation of stray dogs, to control their population, thereby decreasing the incidence of deadly disease such as rabies, an official release said here today. The Society would be headed by Commissioners in case of Municipal Corporations, Deputy Commissioners in case of Councils and Sub Divisional Officer (Civil) in case of Committees, the release said. After sterilisation and immunisation, the dogs will be kept in the kennels for post operative care, feeding and management for the required period till the animals are fit for release, it added. PTI
