Aquilani, who scored five goals in 33 appearances for Italy, said Brazil 2014 could be his last chance of appearing at a World Cup, reports a leading news agency.
"Being picked for the squad is the objective of all, as this could be my last World Cup," he said.
He said he will work hard to impress Prandelli.
"Italy boss Cesare Prandelli expects even more from me, but now I have six months left to convince him to pick me," he said.
The former Roma, Juventus, Milan and Liverpool man, 29, played Euro 2008 and last summer`s Confederations Cup in Brazil.
