BAI announces cash award of Rs 1 cr for Oly gold medal winner

Wishing the players, president BAI and Member Parliament, Akhilesh Das Gupta, in statement said that the Association will award Rs one crore to the Indian shuttler, who will win gold medal at the London Games while the silver medallist will be given a sum of Rs 50 lakh.

New Delhi: In an attempt to boost the morale of the Olympic-bound shuttlers, the Badminton Association of India (BAI) on Friday announced a cash prize of Rs one crore for the gold medal winner.
Wishing the players, president BAI and Member Parliament, Akhilesh Das Gupta, in statement said that the Association will award Rs one crore to the Indian shuttler, who will win gold medal at the London Games while the silver medallist will be given a sum of Rs 50 lakh.
The player, who would bag the bronze will receive Rs 25 lakh, the release added. Saina Nehwal will be spearheading the Indian challenge at the Olympics along with Jwala Gutta, Valiyaveetil Diju, P Kashyap and Ashwini Ponnappa. PTI
