Delhi zoo soon to get four-horned antelopes, monitor lizards

As part of its animal exchange programme, Delhi zoo is all set to get a group of four-horned antelopes and water monitor lizards from Odisha's Nandankanan Zoological Park.

New Delhi: As part of its animal exchange programme, Delhi zoo is all set to get a group of four-horned antelopes and water monitor lizards from Odisha's Nandankanan Zoological Park.

"We are receiving a tremendous response for our animal exchange programme. Nandankanan zoo in Bhubaneswar has decided to shift a male and two female four-horned antelopes as well as two pairs of water-monitor lizards to our zoo," Riyaz Khan, Delhi zoo curator, said.

With the new entrants, the city zoo will now have three pairs of the four-horned antelope.

"We will shift the male antelopes to separate enclosures as they usually get into fights. They fight with their horns that can be fatal," he said.

The Delhi zoo will also send a group of bow-antlered deer to Nandankanan.

"Bow-antlered deer or Sangai is a rare species and only found in the state of Manipur. It is also the state animal. We will be sending two male and three females of the species to the Nandankanan zoo," Khan added.
