Lok Sabha elections: Over 60 percent polling in UP

Over 60 percent polling was recorded in 10 constituencies of western Uttar Pradesh, including riot-hit Muzaffarnagar, so far.

Lucknow: Over 60 percent polling was recorded in 10 constituencies of western Uttar Pradesh, including riot-hit Muzaffarnagar, so far.

The vote percentage in 2009 polls in these districts was 51.30 percent while in 2012 Assembly polls the percentage was 61.78 percent.
According to EC sources, Saharanpur witnessed 68.40 percent polling till reports last came in, while 64.90 percent voting was reported from Kairana, and 63.53 electorates exercised there franchise in Muzaffarnagar.

Similarly, Bijnore had 62.96 percent polling, Meerut 60.50 percent, Baghpat 61.52 percent, Ghaziabad 57.42 percent, Gautam Buddha Nagar 47.20 per cent, Bulandshahr 61.60 percent and Aligarh 55.60 percent.
The electoral fortunes of 146 candidates were sealed in the EVMs today in the 10 Lok Sabha seats, where a total of 1.74 crore voters -- 95.96 lakh men and 78.37 lakh women --were eligible to exercise their franchise.
