Mumbai: Shiv Sena leader Ramdas Kadam on Monday courted trouble when he said that "Muslims" who played a role in the August 2011 riots at the Azad Maidan here "will not be spared".
Kadam`s remarks targeting the minority community show his confidence about the NDA`s `victory` in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.
It may be recalled that police vehicles were vandalised, public property damaged and even women police personnel were attacked during the Azad Maidan riots.
Kadam even went on to say that Narendra Modi, after he becomes the prime minister, will also take revenge for the killing of Indian soldiers by Pakistan.
"Within six months of becoming the PM, Modi will take action against those Pakistanis who have beheaded our soldiers. Manmohan Singh and (Maharashtra CM) Prithviraj Chavan are shamelss, but Modi will not spare those Pakistanis," Kadam said at a rally in Kalyan yesterday.
Kadam`s remarks will add to Modi`s troubles who has been finding it hard to keep his campaign clean, in the wake of controversial statements by the leaders of the BJP, the RSS and its affiliated organisations.
Modi himself has sent out a stern message to such leaders, saying petty statements by claiming to be well wishers of BJP are deviating the campaign.
Modi tweeted: “With great happiness, the entire nation is looking towards BJP for going to people solely on the issues of good governance & development.”
“Petty statements by those claiming to be BJP`s well wishers are deviating the campaign from the issues of development & good governance.”
“I disapprove any such irresponsible statement & appeal to those making them to kindly refrain from doing so.”
