Gulberg case: SIT gives clean chit to Modi Zeenews Bureau

Ahmedabad: The Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the 2002 Gulberg Society massacre case, on Tuesday filed a final closure report and exonerated Chief Minister Narendra Modi of any involvement.

"According to SIT, no offence has been established against any of the 58 persons listed in Zakia's complaint," Metropolitan magistrate MS Bhatt said in his order today on a batch of petitions in which Zakia Jafri, widow of former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri who was among 69 persons killed in the Gulberg society carnage, had named Modi and 57 others for alleged criminal conspiracy in the 2002 riots.

The SIT has filed closure report on Zakia's complaint against CM Narendra Modi and others, the magistrate added.

The judge today also directed the SIT to give a copy of its final report on the case to Zakia Jafri. The judge said that Jafri should be provided with a copy of the report within 30 days.

"Therefore, as per the Supreme Court's order and principles of natural justice the complainant has to be given copy of the report and related documents," it said, adding no notice was needed to be issued to Zakia as she had already approached the court seeking a copy of the report.

"It is hereby ordered that as per Supreme Court order Zakia will be given copies of the investigation report, statements of witnesses and all related documents within 30 days of this order."

In her petition, Zakia had accused over 50 people including Modi of being involved in the post-Godhra riots.

The SIT report, it is claimed, deals with all the cases investigated by the SIT, which include charges against the Chief Minister and 50 other individuals responsible for the post-Godhra riots.

Charges against Modi say that he allowed the dead bodies of karsewaks killed in the Sabarmati Express in Godhra to be brought to Ahmedabad, that he deliberately delayed action and called in the Army too late. It is also alleged that he knew about the threat to life of Ehsan Jafri but didn’t take any action, among others.

The Supreme Court had asked the SIT to investigate whether the Chief Minister failed in his responsibilities and whether there was a larger conspiracy behind the 2002 riots.

Reacting to the SIT's closure report, Zakia said she was "pained" and vowed to continue her battle for justice while BJP said the 2002 riots cannot be used as a "bogey" to sustain the campaign against Modi.

It`s victory of Narendraji.....Victory of Gujarat & Victory of Truth....``Satyamevajayate``....afterall truth came out from this SIT Report. Now steet dogs (congresses) have to stop barking at Mr. Narendra Modi....He is like Giant Elephant walking on the rode of progress without looking at street dogs, because he knows who he is and why he is CM of Gujarat. My good wishes are always with Modiji.....After Lalbahadur Shastri, this is the second honest politician India has ever got.......Vandemataram.......Bharatmata Ke Jay......

Like all the past hostories the cases of riots wheather Hindu or Muslim riots are the grey area of politics for all the political parties and specially to the so called non communal parties. This non communcal will indict my opinion as pro Hindu vadi person, but fact of the time is that the kind of politics that is played using non communal card is worst and have made the country progress almost at halt stage. This includes the leftist who are belived to be nation lover. The need of the time is to develop environment only for the progress by comming out of all such bad past memories and move ahead. Wasting Crores of Indian tax payers money on fixing charges against such cases can be utilised for the progress of the affected once. The vision of such type to be embedded in the heart of all Indians. My salute to all such like minded Indians and may god / Allah/ Jesus progressive vision to all Indians

The way SIT was avoiding and refusing to share the report, it was obvious they had given clean chit to the perpetrator of the genocide. If you recall the culprits of Ode massacre were also given clean chit by the local administration... and the after Supreme court`s intervention + witness protection... 23 criminals were convicted yesterday by the special court. Now the SIT is forced to share the 60,000 page report with Zakia Jafri, all the skeletons in the cupboard will start coming out. The audio tape recorded by 2 justices are proof enough to punish Modi... ex DGP`s statements... Sanjiv Bhatts report... 100s of witnesses... phone call records.... sooner or later the main criminal will surely be punished. Supreme court will do justice... so that no one else dares to repeat the ``chain of action and reaction`` as said by Modi.

Forget the politics, but SIT reports on such sensitive issues should not be made public! It would be against the ethics of policing and also can widely lead to more problems! This is a completely apolitical statement. I also request the media not to sensationalise issues as it poses a danger to the civil society in general and creates an unwanted panic and complete chaos.
