‘Narendra Modi govt for Dalits as priests’

Ahmedabad: Narendra Modi-led Gujarat government has come forward with a unique idea of training manual scavengers in Hindu religious rituals, a leading newspaper reported on Saturday.

Manual scavengers, termed as 'safai kamdars' in Gujarat, will now be trained in Vedic rituals in institutions like SolaBhagvatVidyapith and Somnath Sanskrit University.

Meanwhile, to kickstart the project, the social justice department has proposed a new provision of Rs 22.50 lakh for the exceptional programme in the budget for 2013-14.

The latest move will help the suppressed backward community to become priests, and perform marriages and ‘puja’ in temples.

The move is expected to bring in huge support for the populist choice – Modi, who himself belongs to the OBC community.

Oh god finally someone came forward for dalits. Everybody should there were no dalits in anciant india.it was 4 caste who r equal in the society by do their own buisness. The dalit theory was created by some power hungry extreemist to held their power by dividing peoples of ancient india after that it was going on. Now the time has came to put stop on the bloody lower caste theory otherthan all indian religions will b in great danger. Nobody is superior caste or nobody is lower caste in hinduism. Every human and life is equal in our great hinduism. Please i apeal to all indian originated peoples that dont mark anybody as dalit better then think him from one of the most important caste of our four equal castes. Vande mataram.

Offering reservations and empowering people is two different thing. The first option has created division in Hindus, the second option will help people find their place due to their training! Look at Maha Kali Temple in Kolkatta, the temple was build by rich woman of scheduled cast, today every one visits it and take blessing. Swami Ramchandra Parmhansa also worship over their on his whim! To much blamed RSS has tried to bring common understanding among Hindus, and that was scaring wasted interest in India, who easily label them communal with help of corrupt media!

3 cheers to Modiji. Eventhough I am born in to a brahman family, I realize that anybody can become a brahman if they are learned. I have noproblems inviting any sincere brahman(I dont what he was earlier) to pwrform any ritual in my house

Some people quoting GEETA about the Varnas by birth. But in the GEETA it is stated no one will be born as a Brahmin, Kshatriyas ,Vaisya or Sudra. Every one will be born as Sudra but raises in rank by his deeds and actions . That is the reason in the sacred thread ceremony the person will become a Brahmin. A right decision by MODIJI.

Please understand the caste system in India - It is NOT BY BIRTH ... A dalit fighting for our country is not a dalit anymore he is a KSHATRIYA .. Similarly a Brahmin doing business is not a brahmin any more, he is a Vaish .. Caste is by a duty given !! According to the Hindu texts, the duties of a Vaishyas included cattle rearing and other pastoral tasks, productive labor, agriculture and trade.

This man is not an ordinary man, he will make his name history along side likes of gandhi and perhaps even higher. The rotten and inhuman system that some upper class rogues manipulated for millenia in India in the name of religion, he has the guts to throw out of window and with such a wonderful idea. Not by rallies, not by reservation but by empowering the ones who were suppressed and abused. Hats off sir.

Though I am a supporter of Mr. Narendra Modi, but this news has made me very sad. You can not make people Brahmin by giving them training. As per Srimad Bhagwad Gita, the human beings belongs to different castes like Brahmin, Khatriya, Vaishya & Shudra. Also there are four ashrams like Brahamchari, Grahastha, Vanprastha & Sanyasi. There is no mention of hindu, muslim, sikh, christian etc. One gets birth in a particular family as per his/her past deeds. Brahmins have been given the duty to educate the people about the spiritual knowledge and perform all related spiritual rituals. Brahmins should themselves strictly follow all rules and regulations and teach others as well. Brahmins are not supposed to do any efforts to earn money rather they should live a very simple life. I don`t know how people can become brahmins just by getting some training. Narendra Modi should avoid this move and rather provide facilities to brahmin communities so that they can discharge their duties effectively.
