CJM, parents booked for dowry death in Haryana

Chief Judicial Magistrate Ravneet Garg has been booked along with his parents on a charge of dowry death after his wife Gitanjali`s bullet-ridden dead body was found inside the Police Lines compound Gurgaon on July 17.

Gurgaon: Chief Judicial Magistrate Ravneet Garg has been booked along with his parents on a charge of dowry death after his wife Gitanjali`s bullet-ridden dead body was found inside the Police Lines compound Gurgaon on July 17.
According to Civil Lines SHO Naresh Kumar, although Gitanjali`s relatives had on July 21 filed a written complaint alleging death due to dowry harassment, they had not submitted documents in support of that charge. "They have now provided documents proving that luxury cars, cash and other valuable items were given to Garg and his family members. "Thus, police have booked Ravneet Garg, his father KK Garg and mother Rachna, under Section 304B (dowry death) of IPC," Kumar said. As to any arrests being made in the case, the SHO said that the matter was being investigated by ACP Ashok Bakshi and any accused would taken into custody depending on the outcome of the probe. Upon a request from the relatives of the deceased, Haryana government on July 23 recommended a CBI probe into the matter. The CBI, however, is yet to take over the case, the SHO added. Pardeep Aggarwal, the brother of the deceased, said that even after spending huge sums on his sister`s marriage with Ravneet, in 2007, her husband`s family kept ill-treating her, demanding expensive gifts and cash. "A Skoda Laura worth Rs 17 lakh was given on the occasion of their wedding. "After two years of marriage, on being pressurised by them, we were made to give them a Skoda Superb worth Rs 20 lakh," Aggarwal said. For the last two three months, under pressure from her in-laws, my sister would ask for money from us, even for paying the school fees of her two children as her in-laws had refused to bear the same. He had given her a sum of Rs 2 lakh in May this year, Aggarwal added. Gitanjali gave births to two daughters, presently aged around 4 and 3 years, and her in-laws were not happy with her for not bearing them a male child, Aggarwal alleged. PTI
