New Delhi: Deodorants and antiperspirants are the two things which we frequently use as they help in getting rid of that unwanted smell from our body. Though it helps removing the bad odour but do you think deodorants and antiperspirants can cause some serious health problems?

Well, we might not be aware but there are some ways that they are affecting our health. It is mainly because deodorant and antiperspirants contains certain chemicals which are harmful for health.

Here are some ingredients contained in deodorants and antiperspirants that harms our health:

Triclosan

Deodrants and antiperspirants contain triclosan, an antimicrobial that kills good and bad bacteria, fungi, and other microbes. Some studies have linked this ingredient with an increased risk of cancer. Currently presence of triclosan in still under the supervision of FDA.

Propylene Glycol

This ingredient helps in maintaining the liquidity of deodorant and antiperspirant thus preventing it from drying out. Though FDA categorize it as generally safe but it could potentially lead to liver and kidney damage if sufficient quantities are absorbed.

Parabens

Deodorant or some skin care products containing parabens can mimic the effects of estrogen in our bodies.

Aluminum

Though aluminum is the popular ingredient in deodorants as it blocks sweat glands and makes armpits stay drier, but it also causes those annoying, yellow pit-stains. Aluminium is said to be linked to Alzheimer's disease and breast cancer.
