New Delhi: A huge debate has kicked off after the government shutdown 800 porn websites. Questions are been asked if it is really possible to clamp down on internet in such a manner after international websites like Pornhub, Red Bridgers, Red Tube were blocked following a government decree.

Cyber experts are of the opinion that it is simply a waste of energy to curfew the internet in such a fashion. But why is it so difficult to put a ban on something on the world wide web.

Let us check the reasons:

1) The websites that the government has banned can be opened again via a VPN or similar server. The job of the server is to open up any blocked websites. Once the site address is entered in the server sites, it would automatically open. But it is also true, that if the government chooses to ban website there are very few VPN servers that can open the sites.

2) It is a child play to download any porn content through any of torrents and then play them on the computers or mobile phones. It is technically impossible to clamp down the torrent websites.

3) An analysis says that a lot of porn content nowadays are send through social apps like WhatsApp. In that case apps like WhatsApp need to be blocked in the first place if a ban on porn is to be successful.

Earlier in the day, the government has ordered blocking of 857 porn websites and plans to put in place an ombudsman to look into cyber content-related issues, even as a debate raged on social media over Internet censorship.
