J&K Govt mulls more services at Khidmat Centres: Minister

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir government has mooted a plan to upgrade the Khidmat Centres by connecting them with district, divisional and state level headquarters.

The move is aimed at enabling people living in remote areas to have access to information about various government services and schemes. Khidmat Centres are multi-purpose facilitation centres in villages offering various online facilities to the people. The Information Technology and Science Technology (IT&ST) department has mooted the Khidmat Centre up-gradation project, Minister of state for IT&ST, Feroz Ahmad Khan said at a meeting here today. The proposed project aims at making more online services available at Khidmat Centres including information about disbursement of old age pension, registration of un-employed youths, lodging of complaints, filing of application for Voter Identity Card and others. Existing services offered at these centres like payment of power and telephone bills, booking of railway and air tickets and others, will also be strengthened. The Minister also stressed on the need to promote e-governance at all levels. PTI
