Karnataka polls 2013: Spouses campaigning for husbands

Campaigning in Karnataka is at its peak and it’s not only the candidates who are putting up with heat but their spouses too have joined the battle.

Bangalore: The campaigning for the upcoming Assembly elections in Karnataka is at its peak and it’s not only the candidates who are putting up with the heat and meeting the voters and holding public meeting, but their spouses too who have joined the battle. According to a newspaper report, the wives of candidates who are in the fray are campaigning for their husbands to make sure that they emerge victorious. One such candidate is Shilpa Shettar, the wife of BJP leader and incumbent Chief Minister Jagadish Shetter. She has been meeting voters and campaigning for him in Hubli, which is the CM’s constituency. Meanwhile, Jagadish Shetter is doing a whirlwind tour of the state. The advantage of wives of candidates voting is that they can concentrate on the women voters. Women voters constitute over 45 percent of electorate in any assembly segment Voting for Karnataka Assembly will take place on May 05 and the counting for the same will take place on May 08. Wife of Congress candidate Krishna Byregowda, Meenakshi, too is visiting interior areas in Byatarayanpura constituency to campaign for her husband. Not only that she also holds meeting with campaigners and chalks out a strategy. Not to be left behind, Bhavani Revanna, daughter-in-law of JD(S) chief HD Deve Gowda, has also joined the bandwagon. She is busy moving around in Holenarsipura constituency of Hassan district, asking voters to vote for her husband and JD(S) leader HD Revanna. Part of the list, is also Lakshmi. She is wife of BSR(Congress) founder B Sriramulu`s wife. She is on campaign trail in Bellary. And former minister MP Renukacharya`s wife Suma is also hard at work to make sure that the voters are made aware of a host of issues.
