Bangalore: These days, money power stands out as the most important factor in the polls, which not only helps one in getting a ticket but also garnering votes. This is quite evident in upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections. A news report says that approximately Rs 10 crore is being spent on a single candidate in Bangalore and there are chances of raising it further if a strong competitor emerges from the same constituency. The report further says that this money is spent on buying local leaders by the candidates, who are popular in their localities and swinging in votes. It is also being reported that Rs 1000 is being given to lure the voters. While speaking to a leading media house on the issue of increasing money power in politics, former Mayor, PR Ramesh said that if candidates are selected on the basis of their bank balance then those who want to do serious politics will be denied the opportunity. Congress Committee general secretary BK Hariprasad has expressed concern over illegal and ill-gotten money finding its way into elections.
