In a shocking incident, an 18-year-old girl student of a residential school here was shot dead on late Tuesday night by an office attendant for allegedly spurning his advances.

Bengaluru: In a shocking incident, an 18-year-old girl student of a residential school here was shot dead on late Tuesday night by an office attendant for allegedly spurning his advances.

The accused, Mahesh, has been arrested and a pistol has been recovered from his possession.

The incident took place at Pragathi school where the accused allegedly opened fire at the girl, Gauthami, who was studying in Class XII.

He reportedly barged into her hostel room at around 11 pm and shot her when she answered the door.

A friend of the girl has also been injured in the incident.

The deceased, who hailed from Pavagada in Tumakuru district, was staying in the hostel.

Police teams were constituted to nab the accused, Mahesh, who was absconding after the incident.

The post-mortem of the victim was conducted by the police.

Meanwhile, Dalit Sangharsh Samiti staged a protest after the incident.
