Mumbai: In a good news for real estate customers in the country's financial capital, the city's municipal corporation has now passed a resolution against builders who discriminate against home buyers.

The resolution passed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday states that any developer discriminating against home buyers would face action, including revoking of development-related permissions.

As part of the proposals mooted under the resolution, the BMC will cancel occupation certificates of housing societies whose developers refuse to sell flats to members of a particular community or caste, or non-vegetarians.

Developers who engage in such practices would also not be given water connections.

The motion was passed in the BMC by voice vote with the support of legislators of MNS, Shiv Sena, Congress, Samajwadi Party and NCP. The BJP had opposed the move.

The resolution, though passed by the BMC, will require the approval of the municipal commissioner and state's urban development department to be implemented.
