US Open: Serena defeats Azarenka to win her fourth title

New York: Serena Williams continued her good run in 2012 as she defeated Victoria Azarenka on Sunday to win the women’s singles US Open title. Serena defeated Victoria Azarenka 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 on Sunday night for her fourth championship at Flushing Meadows and 15th Grand Slam title overall. The crowd hasn’t witnessed too many three-set finals at New York. Azarenka rose to the occasion and won the first set after which Serena made a fight back to lift the trophy. Azarenka who won the Australian Open this year, was denied a second major this season but will remain atop the rankings.
