Trial run of new taxiway, MRO at Nagpur airport successful

The trial run of a newly constructed 3.4 kms long taxiway and Maintenance Repair Overhaul (MRO) unit of Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport (MIHAN) was conducted successfully here, Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) said today.

Nagpur: The trial run of a newly constructed 3.4 kms long taxiway and Maintenance Repair Overhaul (MRO) unit of Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport (MIHAN) was conducted successfully here, Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) said today.

The trial was conducted after Air India's largest aircraft Boeing 777-300 landed at the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport from where it was towed by a special tractor to MRO using the newly constructed taxiway.

The USD 100 million MRO is constructed by Boeing and was handed over to Air India.

The fully-owned subsidiary of AirIndia, Air India Engineering Services Ltd (AIESL) has been given responsibility to run the MRO, a statement from MADC issued here said.

The MRO will cater to both wide body and narrow body aircraft and will be targeting business in India as well as in foreign countries within reach of five hours air distance from Nagpur, it said.

The trial run was conducted to validate the condition of taxiway, its markings and surrounding clearances, and to check the inner space of hanger of MRO.

The aircraft started its run with help of tractor from runway towards MRO on the taxiway and passed through the crossing of Shivangaon road to reach MRO smoothly without any trouble, it added.

Vice Chairman and Managing Director of MADC, CEO of AIESL H R Jagannath were on board in the aircraft which took off from Mumbai to MRO in Nagpur.
Jagannath expressed satisfaction with the condition and quality of taxiway and said the MRO is fully ready physically for the operation.

Operations at the MRO will start after it receives the license to operate from DGCI and its official inauguration.
