Boy dies after drowning in high tide; one rescued from Mumbai`s Marine Drive

Despite a high tide alert warning issued for Mumbaikars, two boys fell prey to huge tidal waves that lashed Mumbai`s Marine Drive beach on Sunday afternoon; while one of them was rescued, the other was not so lucky.

Zee Media Bureau/Supriya Jha Mumbai: Despite a high tide alert warning issued for Mumbaikars, two boys fell prey to huge tidal waves that lashed Mumbai`s Marine Drive beach on Sunday afternoon; while one of them was rescued, the other was not so lucky. Of the two boys who were swept away by the torrential tide, one was rescued and the other had lost his life before he was pulled out of the waters. Two days after huge tidal waves lashed Mumbai`s shores, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) has issued an advisory warning people not to go near the beaches. However, many people reportedly ignored the call by authorities and were seen flocking near the shores to enjoy the hih tide. The MCGM has issued an advisory for Mumbaikars instructing them to keep away from the shores which were expected to be hit by huge tidal waves of upto 5 metres at 2:03 pm today. The warning comes as people are still suffering from the traffic snarls and water logging caused by high tide that pummeled Mumbai`s shores near the Gateway of India.
Waves as high as 4.5 metres hit Mumbai`s beaches on Friday morning, bringing waters in the residential areas and roads, causing an unprecedented annoyance to Mumbaikars. The civic agency has taken steps to tackle the situation as the meteorological department has predicted that high tides are expected to hit Mumbai for one week till June 18.
The high tide has reportedly been caused by the cyclonic storm Nanauk that developed in Arabian Sea.
