Mumbai: Two girls from nearby Thane district were arrested by the Mumbai Police for posting a Facebook comment that questioned the bandh in Mumbai following Shiv Sena leader Bal Thackeray's death.

While 21-year-old Shaheen Dhadha was arrested for Facebook status update which reportedly read: ‘People like Thackeray are born and die daily and one should not observe a bandh for that.’

Her friend, indentified as one Renu, who ‘liked’ her comment was also arrested.

The duo were reportedly booked under Section 295 (a) of the IPC (for hurting religious sentiments) and Section 64 (a) of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

However, within hours of the arrest, both of them were released on bail of Rs 15,000 each.

The arrests came hours after Shiv Sainiks reportedly attacked and ransacked Shaheen’s orthopaedic clinic at Palghar.

Importantly, the girl had withdrawn the comment and apologised before the attacks took place.

Meanwhile, Justice Markandey Katju has written a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan in which he has termed the arrest as absurd and demanded immediate action against guilty officers.

In our hindu religion we should not comment about dead person the same mistake was done by these girls which attracts ire of shiv sainiks. To maintain peace police may have arrested Girls.Second thing Girls also hurts sentiments of Marathi peoples which some non marathi peoples think as unwarranted.

My friend please use your words carefully I can’t understand which Hindu religion you are referring to What Girish has said is absolutely right and its right for every religion not only for Hindus. By any chance have you came across the wordings “??????? ?????????...” in Sanskrit. If not please go through “Hindu” religion again and if do not know what does that mean there are lot more information available now a day’s which you can refer to. Be careful with your words. Once they’re said, they can only be forgiven not forgotten. The same mistake is done by the girls.

RIP democracy you are officially dead in India. Indians cannot criticize the ruling party, a political leader or their followers while those in power literally get away with murder. RIP freedom of speech because if a politican doesnt like whats being said the speaker will be jailed.

The comment posted by the girl is not in good taste. However it is arrogant on the part of the Maharashtra police to arrest the girl. It is an action to thwart freedom of expression offered by the Constitution. Any one who has objection over the comment should only counter it, if any. Under which section of IPC, the police can file FIR against her?.

Gandhi is this what you fought for? So that the country could be looted by our on people? So that we still have no freedom of speech? And we are forced to respect people under the threat of violence? Hey not much different from the British raj huh?

A sheer non-sense act by the Maharashtra police. Indian constitution have granted its citizen the freedom of speech and expression, this act in Mumbai shows violation of rights and the central government must now wake up from slumber and act to this injustice.

This is shameful. The cops who made this arrest should be suspended. and The shiv seniks who attacked her office should be immediately arrested.

Arrests should have been done but of those Shivsainiks who attacked the Girl`s house. Is Hurting someone`s sentiments is more serious crime than hurting someone itself ?? Shame on Indian administration

This is the clear picture of what they call `Our great India`` with Police acting as a puppet of few leaders. And on top ``Uneducated`` Shiv Sainiks.
