He succeeds Lt Gen H M Khanna who retired on Wednesday, a defence release said in Jammu.
Nanavatty, commissioned in December 1962 as an infrantry officer of the 8th Gorkha Rifles, is recipient of the 'Uttam Yudh Seva Medal', the 'ati Vishisht Seva Medal' and the 'param Vishisht Seva Medal', the release said.
