McAfee set to devise gadget to thwart NSA snooping

McAfee said that the device, dubbed `Decentral`, will cost less than 100 dollars and there will be no way for the NSA to gauge a user`s location or identity.

Wellington: John McAfee, who set up the pioneering anti-virus software company, has announced his plans to develop an inexpensive, pocket-size gadget which could help thwart the US government`s surveillance.
McAfee said that the device, dubbed `Decentral`, will cost less than 100 dollars and there will be no way for the NSA to gauge a user`s location or identity. He further explained that the device is called `Decentral` because it will create decentralized, floating and moving local networks when people communicate with smartphones, tablets and other devices, and will not be penetrable by government spy agencies. McAfee said that if the US government bans the sale of the device, he will sell it in England, Japan and the Third World. According to the report, the device will be compatible with Apple iPhones and Google Android-based phones and its range will be three blocks in the city and it will also include an option that sends an alert if there is a burglary or other crime. McAfee said that the idea of creating such a device had hit him before the NSA revelations by Edward Snowden, but post the leaks; he found it to be the `right time` to actualize the idea. When questioned about the device`s privacy and whether it will allow criminals to evade authorities, McAfee said that the device will be surely used for nefarious purposes just like the telephone is used, the report added.
