Popularity doesn’t ensure victory in US presidential polls

Zeenews Bureau Washington: Barack Obama and Mitt Romney are neck and neck when it comes to votes polled in their favour. Both have just over 49% ballots to their name. However, Obama has emerged as a clear winner in the 2012 US presidential election. In year 2000, Democrat Al Gore had 1% more votes than Republican George Bush Junior. But the Florida recount had sealed the fate in favour of Bush, who went on to implement a series of controversial policies on Iraq, Afghanistan and Middle East, which changed the course of world history. Such is the dynamic of the US electoral system.
